The 2+2 Band

The 2+2 Band is based in the Eastern area of the Algarve in Portugal, centered around the old historic town of Moncarapacho.
The band consists of the following members :

Ken - vocals/drums
Rob - bass guitar/guitar/vocals
Damian – lead guitar
Pedro – guitar/bass guitar/vocals
Augusto – drums/vocals Miguel – drums


HOW DID IT ALL START :
As you know, a real musician cannot leave his music alone, there is always the will and drive to make music, be involved in music, getting a kick out of it.
So, when Ken moved from the UK (playing in bands all his life) to the Algarve in 2002, soon he met Damian, at that time 13 years of age, who could play the guitar pretty well already, and they teamed up and played at local pubs and venues. Amazingly Damian really likes the 60’s and 70’s English music style, and songs of the Beatles, Stones, Kinks, Searchers, etc. became the repertoire of these 2.
Early 2004 Rob (who came to the Algarve in 2002 from Holland/Australia) met up with these 2, and at the same time Ilse from Belgium (who has had lots of professional singing experience) joined up with Ken and Damian, and henceforth the name “2+2 Band” was decided on.
For 3 years we played at all sorts of venues, small and large, where we entertained people from young to old, from Portuguese to Expats, with our very own and known sound of the English sixties and seventies. Depending on the audience, we play easy-listening/ballads, or some of the hard-rock numbers.
The year 2008 saw a change. Ilse, through work and motherhood (twins), decided that there was not much spare time left for doing the music. With that, Ken wanted to take it easy as well, and do the vocals without drumming at the same time. Hence Augusto, an allround musician but his best performance is on drums, took over the battering of the drumkit (in Portuguese called “bateria”)
But, depending on Augusto’s work commitments, Miguel will take the role of “bateria-leader”
And, because of Rob’s work commitments in 2009, Pedro fills in the bass-section of the band.
Pedro also being a multi-instrumentalist, we just make a good band, all of us enjoying music to its limits. Not being professionals, but having music running through our veins.
IN SHORT, the 2+2 Band has this enthusiasm that will rub off to all their audiences
